The core pattern is subject + get + past participle. Get passive vs be passive

The closest contrast is the be passive. Be passive is more neutral and more common in formal writing: “The meeting was cancelled by the manager.” Get passive is more conversational and event-focused: “The meeting got cancelled at the last minute.” Be can also describe a state, not an event: “The door was closed” may simply mean it was not open. Use it carefully in formal reports, contracts, academic writing, and historical facts, where the be passive usually sounds more professional.
