Clara: Hilo ndilo swali kuu tulilolenga kulitatua kupitia Vocafy.

Nafanya nini?

Clara: Mfano mzuri kabisa.

Clara: Sasa unaufanya uwe sehemu yako. Unaweza kugeuza mkusanyiko huo kuwa playlist ya sauti ya ubora wa juu na kuisikiliza ukiwa unaendesha gari au ukiwa gym. Hii hujenga uwezo wako wa kuelewa unachosikia. Lakini uchawi wa kweli hutokea unapoanza kuutumia. Unaweza kuanzisha mazungumzo na AI Tutor wako binafsi.

Ben: AI Tutor? Hiyo ni chatbot ya kawaida tu?

Clara: Hapana kabisa. Hapo ndipo siri ilipo.

Clara: Hilo ndilo hasa lengo letu. Kufanya ujifunzaji wa lugha uwe sehemu ya maisha yako iliyo ya asili, inayokuvutia, na ya binafsi kwa undani, si kazi ya lazima ya kumaliza tu.

Ben: Asante sana kwa muda wako leo. Na kwa wasikilizaji wetu, unaweza kuanza kujenga mzunguko wako mwenyewe wa kujifunza leo kwenye vocafy.net.

Clara: Kila la heri kwenye kujifunza, nyote

Ben: Welcome to Vocafy Unpacked. I'm Ben, and today I'm joined by Clara to talk about the thinking behind Vocafy. Clara, here's something familiar: I see a word in Spanish and know what it means. Then, when I need it, I can't remember it. Did I actually learn it?

Clara: You've learned something about it. Recognising a word, remembering it without a hint, understanding it when someone says it, and using it yourself are different demands. You can be comfortable with one and still need practice with another.

Ben: So recognising it is progress, but there's more to work on.

Clara: Exactly. And that's one reason Vocafy connects different kinds of practice. A useful expression can be part of something you read, something you review, something you listen to, and something you use yourself.

Ben: What's the starting point? Do I follow a course?

Clara: You can follow lessons if you want more guidance. But you can also start with something you want to understand or do. Create material for your level, bring something you already have, or choose from the available content.

Ben: Let's make that concrete. I'm learning Spanish, and I'm planning a trip. Where could I begin?

Clara: You could start by asking Vocafy to create a vocabulary set for your trip, with useful words, common phrases and example sentences. These collections are called Voca sets. You can listen to them while travelling or in your free time, choosing which language comes first, how often each item repeats, and how much time you have between them. Or you could generate a short reading about arriving in a new city, or a story with several chapters, at a level that suits you. A simple prompt can be enough to get started.

Ben: And if I've already found a travel video I want to watch?

Clara: You can bring in YouTube videos through the browser extension and work with their subtitles. You can also bring in an article or your own text, or choose a book, video or song already in Vocafy.

Ben: Does the material have to be something I'm passionate about?

Clara: No. Useful is a good reason too. It might be a work document, a topic from your course, or a situation you expect to face. The idea is to give yourself a reason to pay attention to what the language means.

Ben: All right. I'm reading my travel story, and I find an expression I want to remember. What happens?

Clara: You select it, check its meaning, and save it to your vocabulary. Where a source sentence is available, that stays with it, so you can return to the expression in context.

Ben: Rather than looking at it tomorrow and wondering why I saved it.

Clara: Right. And if it appears in another supported text, the highlighting can show that it's already part of your vocabulary—whether you're learning it or have marked it as known.

Ben: Is that what you mean by Learning Memory?

Clara: That's part of it. Learning Memory keeps track of your saved vocabulary, its context, your learning states and related practice history. It gives different parts of Vocafy a shared record to work with.

Ben: Does it know how well I can use every word?

Clara: Not completely. A saved word or a successful review doesn't tell the whole story. Today, it mainly connects your vocabulary and learning history. Understanding more about the different ways you know and use a word is something being developed further.

Ben: So I've saved my expression. How do I work on remembering it?

Clara: You can return to it through spaced review, with different kinds of tasks. You might recall the expression, type an answer, complete a sentence or practise listening. Sometimes you'll recognise the answer easily; having to produce it yourself may take more effort.

Ben: And what about times when I don't want to sit and answer questions?

Clara: You can listen to your collections, just like that travel set we started with. As you add useful expressions from your reading or other activities, you can include those too. So what you discover today can become part of what you listen to tomorrow.

Ben: Where does the AI tutor come in?

Clara: You can have a conversation, ask for an explanation, practise vocabulary or work through a situation. For your trip, you might practise checking into a hotel or asking about a train ticket.

Ben: Does the tutor connect to what I've been learning?

Clara: It can access relevant parts of your vocabulary and learning history, so expressions you're working on can come into the practice. It can also bring in tools such as a quiz or review, or offer to save a new expression that comes up.

Ben: Do I have to keep the conversation focused on my saved words?

Clara: No. You can follow the conversation wherever it's useful. The connection is there to support you, and you can adjust how the tutor explains things and corrects you.

Ben: What if I understand an expression but struggle to pronounce it?

Clara: There's a separate pronunciation practice area. You can work with words you're learning or a vocabulary collection, record yourself, listen back and get feedback. That gives you a focused way to work on saying something aloud.

Ben: We've talked about reading, review, listening, the tutor and pronunciation. Is that a sequence I'm supposed to follow?

Clara: No, and you don't need to use everything. You might read something and save two useful phrases. Another day, you might review, follow a lesson or use the grammar checker. The point is that these activities can connect through what you're learning.

Ben: So what's a sensible first step?

Clara: Choose one small thing you'd like to understand or be able to express. Create or open some material around it, save what's useful, and come back to it. Give yourself opportunities both to understand the language and to use it.

Ben: And those opportunities can build on each other.

Clara: Exactly. That's the thinking behind Vocafy: keeping useful language and its context with you as you continue learning.

Ben: Clara, thank you. And thanks to everyone listening. You can explore Vocafy at vocafy.net. See you next time on Vocafy Unpacked.
