The core pattern is subject + get + past participle. The closest contrast is the be passive. It is natural in sentences such as “He got fined for parking there,” “We didn’t get paid on time,” and “How did you get selected for the team?” It is also common with accidents, punishments, invitations, promotions, delays, and checks. Use it carefully in formal reports, contracts, academic writing, and historical facts, where the be passive usually sounds more professional.
