బెన్ గారు: Vocafy Unpackedకు మళ్లీ స్వాగతం. నేను మీ హోస్ట్ బెన్. Vocafy భాషా అభ్యాస నిపుణురాలు క్లారా గారు మరోసారి నాతో ఉన్నారు.
Ben: Welcome back to Vocafy Unpacked. I'm your host, Ben, here again with Vocafy's language-learning expert, Clara.
క్లారా గారు: హాయ్, బెన్ గారు. మళ్లీ రావడం చాలా సంతోషంగా ఉంది.
Clara: Hi Ben. Great to be back.
బెన్ గారు: క్లారా గారు, ఈ రోజు ప్రతి భాషా అభ్యాసకుడికీ తెలిసిన ఒక విషయం గురించి మాట్లాడాలనుకుంటున్నాను.
Ben: Clara, today I want to talk about something every language learner knows.
మీరు ఎన్నో కొత్త పదాలు నేర్చుకుంటారు. అవి బాగా తెలిసినట్లే అనిపిస్తాయి. బహుశా మిమ్మల్ని మీరు పరీక్షించుకుని సరైన సమాధానాలు కూడా చెబుతారు.
You learn a bunch of new words. They feel familiar. Maybe you even test yourself and get them right.
ఆపై వారం తర్వాత ఎవరైనా ఆ పదాల్లో ఒకదాన్ని వాడితే, “ఇది నాకు తెలుసు... కచ్చితంగా నేర్చుకున్నాను... దీని అర్థం ఏమిటి?” అని అనుకుంటారు.
Then a week later, somebody uses one of those words and you think, “I know this... I definitely learned this... what does it mean?”
ఏం జరిగింది?
What happened?
క్లారా గారు: పూర్తిగా సహజమైన విషయం జరిగింది: మీరు మర్చిపోయారు.
Clara: Something completely normal: you forgot.
బెన్ గారు: అది కాస్త ఊరటనిచ్చేంత సూటిగా ఉంది.
Ben: That's reassuringly direct.
క్లారా గారు: కానీ ఇది ముఖ్యమైన విషయం. ఎందుకంటే అభ్యాసకులు తరచూ తాము భాషలు నేర్చుకోవడంలో బలహీనులమని చెప్పే నిదర్శనంగా మర్చిపోవడాన్ని భావిస్తారు.
Clara: But it's important, because learners often treat forgetting as evidence that they're bad at languages.
సాధారణంగా అది నిజం కాదు. కాలంతో పాటు జ్ఞాపకశక్తి మారుతుంది. మనం ఏదైనా ఒక్కసారి చూసి, ఆ తర్వాత దాన్ని మళ్లీ వాడకపోయినా గుర్తుకు తెచ్చుకోకపోయినా, దాన్ని గుర్తుంచుకునే మన సామర్థ్యం తరచూ బలహీనపడుతుంది.
Usually it isn't. Memory changes over time. If we encounter something once and then never use or retrieve it again, our ability to remember it often becomes weaker.
బెన్ గారు: అదేనా ప్రసిద్ధ “మర్చిపోయే వక్రరేఖ”?
Ben: Is that the famous “forgetting curve”?
క్లారా గారు: ఆ భావన అక్కడి నుంచే వచ్చింది.
Clara: That's where the idea comes from.
In the nineteenth century, the psychologist Hermann Ebbinghaus carried out some of the earliest systematic experiments on memory. He learned lists of meaningless syllables himself and measured how difficult they were to relearn after different amounts of time.
ఆయన ఫలితాల్లో తర్వాత ప్రసిద్ధి చెందిన ఒక నమూనా కనిపించింది: నేర్చుకున్న వెంటనే మర్చిపోవడం సాపేక్షంగా వేగంగా జరిగింది, ఆపై కాలంతో పాటు అది నెమ్మదించింది.
His results showed a pattern that has become famous: forgetting was relatively rapid after learning, then slowed over time.
బెన్ గారు: అంటే మనం ప్రతిచోటా చూసే ఆ వక్రరేఖ — మొదట ఒక్కసారిగా పడిపోయి, ఆ తర్వాత దాదాపు సమతలంగా మారే గీత.
Ben: So that curve we see everywhere — the dramatic drop followed by a flatter line.
క్లారా గారు: సరిగ్గా చెప్పారు. కానీ ఇందులో ఒక ముఖ్యమైన హెచ్చరిక ఉంది.
Clara: Exactly. But there's an important warning.
ఒక గంట, ఒక రోజు లేదా ఒక వారం తర్వాత ప్రతి వ్యక్తి ఎంత మర్చిపోతారో కచ్చితంగా చెప్పగల ఒకే సార్వత్రిక మర్చిపోయే వక్రరేఖ లేదు.
There isn't one universal forgetting curve that tells us exactly how much every person will forget after one hour, one day or one week.
Ebbinghaus studied one person — himself — using very artificial material. Real vocabulary learning depends on many things: how well you learned the word in the first place, how meaningful it is to you, how often you encounter it, what you already know, and what you're trying to remember.
బెన్ గారు: అంటే “సరిగ్గా ఇరవై నాలుగు గంటల తర్వాత మీ జ్ఞాపకంలో ముప్పై శాతమే మిగులుతుంది” అనేది మనం నేర్చుకోవాల్సిన పాఠం కాదు.
Ben: So the useful lesson isn't “after exactly twenty-four hours, your memory will be at thirty percent.”
క్లారా గారు: అసలు కాదు.
Clara: Definitely not.
ఉపయోగకరమైన పాఠం మరింత సరళమైనది: ఒక్కసారి పరిచయం కావడం సాధారణంగా సరిపోదు; ఆ తర్వాత మళ్లీ ఎప్పుడు పరిచయం అవుతున్నారనేది ముఖ్యం.
The useful lesson is much simpler: one encounter is usually not enough, and the timing of later encounters matters.
బెన్ గారు: ఇక్కడే విరామ పునరావృతం ప్రస్తావన వస్తుంది.
Ben: Which brings us to spaced repetition.
క్లారా గారు: అవును.
Clara: Right.
మీరు ఇరవై కొత్త పదాలు నేర్చుకోవాలనుకుంటున్నారని ఊహించుకోండి. ఒక్క సాయంత్రంలోనే ప్రతి పదాన్నీ పదిసార్లు పునరావృతం చేయవచ్చు.
Imagine you want to learn twenty new words. You could repeat each one ten times in a single evening.
అలా చేస్తే అవి మీకు బాగా తెలిసినట్లు అనిపించవచ్చు.
That might make them feel very familiar.
బెన్ గారు: సరిగ్గా అప్పుడే నేను వాటిని నేర్చేసుకున్నానని నమ్మకంగా చెప్పుకుంటాను.
Ben: Which is exactly when I confidently tell myself I've learned them.
క్లారా గారు: అదే ఉచ్చు. ప్రస్తుతం ఏదైనా బాగా తెలిసినట్లు అనిపించడం, కొన్ని రోజులు లేదా వారాల తర్వాత దాన్ని గుర్తుకు తెచ్చుకోగలగడంతో సమానం కాదు.
Clara: And that's the trap. Familiarity right now isn't necessarily the same as being able to retrieve something days or weeks later.
ఆ పునరావృతాలన్నింటినీ ఒకేసారి చేయడానికి బదులుగా, వాటిని కొంతకాలం పాటు విస్తరించవచ్చు.
Instead of doing all those repetitions at once, you can spread them across time.
ఈ రోజు ఆ పదాన్ని చూడండి. కొంతకాలం తర్వాత దాన్ని మళ్లీ చూడండి. ఆపై ఇంకా ఎక్కువ విరామం తర్వాత మరోసారి చూడండి. దాన్ని గుర్తుంచుకోవడం సులభంగానే ఉంటే, పునశ్చరణల మధ్య విరామాన్ని క్రమంగా పెంచవచ్చు.
You meet the word today. Return to it later. Then again after a longer interval. If it continues to be easy to remember, the gaps between reviews can become longer.
విరామ పునరావృతం వెనుక ఉన్న ప్రాథమిక భావన ఇదే.
That's the basic idea behind spaced repetition.
బెన్ గారు: ఇది కేవలం యాప్లోని ఒక చిట్కా మాత్రమే కాదు కదా?
Ben: And this isn't just an app trick?
క్లారా గారు: కాదు. జ్ఞాపకశక్తిపై జరిగిన పరిశోధనల్లో విరామ ప్రభావం అత్యంత స్థిరంగా నిర్ధారణైన అంశాల్లో ఒకటి.
Clara: No. The spacing effect is one of the most established findings in memory research.
అనేక రకాల అభ్యాసాల్లో, ఒకే కేంద్రీకృత సెషన్లో అదే సమాచారాన్ని పదేపదే చదవడం కంటే వేర్వేరు సెషన్లలో చదివిన సమాచారం దీర్ఘకాలంలో మెరుగ్గా గుర్తుంటుంది.
Across many kinds of learning, information studied across separate sessions tends to be retained better over the long term than the same material studied repeatedly in one concentrated session.
ప్రత్యేకంగా ద్వితీయ భాషాభ్యాసంపై జరిగిన పరిశోధనల్లోనూ ఇదే సాధారణ నమూనా కనిపించింది.
Research specifically on second-language learning has found the same general pattern.
బెన్ గారు: అయితే దానికి అల్గోరిథమ్ ఎందుకు అవసరం? ప్రతి కొన్ని రోజులకు అన్నింటినీ పునశ్చరణ చేయలేనా?
Ben: But why do we need an algorithm for that? Couldn't I just review everything every few days?
క్లారా గారు: చేయవచ్చు. పది పదాలు మాత్రమే ఉంటే, అది చాలా బాగా పనిచేయవచ్చు.
Clara: You could. And with ten words, that might work perfectly well.
కానీ పదాలు యాభై అయినప్పుడు, ఆపై ఐదు వందలు, తర్వాత కొన్ని వేలుగా మారినప్పుడు సమస్య మొదలవుతుంది.
The problem appears when you have fifty words, then five hundred, then several thousand.
కొన్ని కష్టంగా ఉంటాయి. కొన్ని సులభంగా ఉంటాయి. కొన్నింటిని అప్పుడే నేర్చుకుని ఉంటారు. మరికొన్ని నెలలుగా మీకు ఏ ఇబ్బందీ కలిగించి ఉండవు.
Some are difficult. Some are easy. Some you've just learned. Others haven't troubled you for months.
వాటన్నింటినీ ఒకే విధంగా పునశ్చరణ చేయడం వల్ల చాలా సమయం వృథా అవుతుంది.
Reviewing all of them equally would waste a lot of time.
బెన్ గారు: ఇక్కడే SRS — విరామ పునరావృత వ్యవస్థ — ఉపయోగపడుతుంది.
Ben: So that's where an SRS — a Spaced Repetition System — comes in.
క్లారా గారు: సరిగ్గా చెప్పారు.
Clara: Exactly.
ఏ అంశాలు మళ్లీ అభ్యాసంలోకి రావాలి, సుమారుగా ఎప్పుడు రావాలి అనే విషయాలను నిర్ణయించడంలో SRS సహాయపడుతుంది.
An SRS helps decide what should come back into practice and roughly when.
మీకు కష్టంగా ఉన్న అంశాలు త్వరగా మళ్లీ రావచ్చు. మీరు విజయవంతంగా గుర్తుంచుకుంటున్న అంశాలకు సాధారణంగా ఎక్కువ విరామం ఇవ్వవచ్చు.
Items you're struggling with can return sooner. Items you keep remembering successfully can usually wait longer.
మీరు ఏదైనా మర్చిపోయే కచ్చితమైన క్షణాన్ని అంచనా వేయడం దీని ఉద్దేశం కాదు. మానవ జ్ఞాపకశక్తిని అంత కచ్చితంగా అంచనా వేయలేం.
The point isn't to predict the exact second you're going to forget something. Human memory isn't that predictable.
లక్ష్యం మరింత ఆచరణాత్మకమైనది: మరోసారి గుర్తుకు తెచ్చుకునే ప్రయత్నం ఉపయోగపడే అంశాల కోసం మీ పరిమిత అభ్యాస సమయాన్ని వినియోగించడం.
The goal is much more practical: use your limited practice time where another retrieval is likely to be useful.
బెన్ గారు: మీరు ఇప్పుడే “గుర్తుకు తెచ్చుకోవడం” అనే మాట వాడారు. అది పునరావృతానికి భిన్నమైనదా?
Ben: You just used the word “retrieval.” Is that different from repetition?
క్లారా గారు: చాలా భిన్నమైనది — పైగా ఇది అత్యంత ముఖ్యమైన అంశాల్లో ఒకటి.
Clara: Very different — and this is one of the most important parts.
నేను మీకు ఇలా రాసి ఉన్న ఒక కార్డును చూపించాననుకోండి:
Suppose I show you a card that says:
“ephemeral — అతి కొద్దిసేపు మాత్రమే ఉండేది.”
“ephemeral — lasting for a very short time.”
మీరు దాన్ని ఐదుసార్లు చదివారు.
You read it five times.
అది పునరావృతం.
That's repetition.
కానీ నేను “ephemeral” అని చూపించి, సమాధానం వెల్లడించే ముందు దాని అర్థాన్ని గుర్తుకు తెచ్చుకోమని అడిగితే, మీరు గుర్తుకు తెచ్చుకునే అభ్యాసం చేస్తున్నారు.
But if I show you “ephemeral” and ask you to remember the meaning before revealing the answer, you're doing retrieval practice.
మీరు జ్ఞాపకంలో నుంచి సమాచారాన్ని తిరిగి తీసుకురావడానికి ప్రయత్నిస్తున్నారు.
You're trying to bring the information back from memory.
బెన్ గారు: అంటే కొన్ని క్షణాలు గుర్తుకు తెచ్చుకోవడానికి కష్టపడటం తప్పనిసరిగా చెడ్డ విషయం కాదు.
Ben: So struggling for a few seconds isn't necessarily a bad thing.
క్లారా గారు: సరిగ్గా చెప్పారు.
Clara: Exactly.
విజయవంతంగా గుర్తుకు తెచ్చుకోవడమే ఒక అభ్యాస ఘట్టం. సమాచారాన్ని మళ్లీ కేవలం చూడటం కంటే దాన్ని గుర్తుకు తెచ్చుకోవడాన్ని అభ్యసించడం, తర్వాత గుర్తుంచుకునే సామర్థ్యాన్ని మరింత మెరుగుపరుస్తుందని విస్తృత పరిశోధనలు చూపుతున్నాయి.
Successful retrieval is itself a learning event. A large body of research shows that practising retrieval can improve later memory more than simply seeing the information again.
కాబట్టి ఉపయోగకరమైన పునశ్చరణ వ్యవస్థ కేవలం, “మీరు ఈ పదాన్ని ఇటీవల చూశారా?” అని మాత్రమే అడగదు.
So a useful review system isn't just asking, “Have you looked at this word recently?”
మీకు తెలిసినదాన్ని నిజంగా గుర్తుకు తెచ్చుకునే అవకాశాలను కూడా ఇస్తుంది.
It's giving you opportunities to actually retrieve what you know.
బెన్ గారు: అయితే ఒకే విధంగా గుర్తుకు తెచ్చుకోగలగడం వల్ల ఆ పదం నాకు పూర్తిగా తెలుసని నిర్ధారణ కాదు కదా?
Ben: And presumably one kind of retrieval doesn't prove that I completely know a word.
క్లారా గారు: భాషాభ్యాసంలో ఇది మరీ ముఖ్యమైన విషయం.
Clara: That's especially important in language learning.
ఒక పదం “తెలుసు” అంటే నిజంగా ఏమిటో ఆలోచించండి.
Think about what it means to “know” a word.
మీరు చదువుతున్నప్పుడు దాన్ని గుర్తుపట్టవచ్చు, కానీ మీరే దాన్ని వాడలేకపోవచ్చు.
You might recognise it while reading but be unable to produce it yourself.
దాని రాతరూపాన్ని చూసినప్పుడు అర్థం గుర్తుకు రావచ్చు, కానీ మాట్లాడేటప్పుడు వినిపిస్తే గుర్తుపట్టలేకపోవచ్చు.
You might remember its meaning when you see the written form but fail to recognise it in speech.
లేదా దాన్ని పూర్తిగా అర్థం చేసుకున్నా, ఒక వాక్యంలో సహజంగా ఎలా వాడాలో తెలియకపోవచ్చు.
Or you might understand it perfectly and still not know how to use it naturally in a sentence.
బెన్ గారు: అంటే పదజాల పరిజ్ఞానం అనేది తెలుసు లేదా తెలియదు అని చెప్పే సాధారణ స్విచ్లాంటిది కాదు.
Ben: So vocabulary knowledge isn't really a simple known-or-not-known switch.
క్లారా గారు: అవును.
Clara: Exactly.
అందుకే వైవిధ్యమైన అభ్యాసం ఉపయోగకరంగా ఉంటుంది.
That's why varied practice can be useful.
You can recall a meaning, choose between alternatives, complete a sentence, write the word yourself, listen for it, or meet it again inside meaningful content.
ఈ కార్యకలాపాల్లో ప్రతి ఒక్కటీ మీ జ్ఞాపకశక్తి నుంచి కొద్దిగా భిన్నమైన సామర్థ్యాన్ని కోరుతుంది.
These activities ask slightly different things of your memory.
బెన్ గారు: ఒకే విడి పదజోడును పదేపదే చూపించే సంప్రదాయ ఫ్లాష్కార్డ్ అనుభవానికి ఇది చాలా భిన్నంగా అనిపిస్తోంది.
Ben: Which sounds quite different from the classic flashcard experience of seeing the same isolated pair again and again.
క్లారా గారు: అలా ఉండవచ్చు.
Clara: It can be.
ఫ్లాష్కార్డుల్లోనే సమస్య లేదు. అవి ఉపయోగకరమైన సాధనం.
Flashcards themselves aren't the problem. They're a useful tool.
కానీ ఒక పదం ఎలా వినిపిస్తుంది, దాన్ని ఎక్కడ చూశారు, అది ఎలాంటి వాక్యంలో కనిపిస్తుంది, అర్థవంతమైన విషయంతో అది ఎలా అనుసంధానమై ఉంది అనే వివరాలు కూడా తెలిసినప్పుడు ఆ పదం మరింత సమృద్ధిగా మారుతుంది.
But a word becomes much richer when you also know how it sounds, where you've seen it, what kind of sentence it appears in, and how it connects to something meaningful.
అద్భుతమైన ఉల్కాపాతం గురించిన ఒక వ్యాసం నుంచి మీరు “ephemeral” అనే పదాన్ని సేవ్ చేశారని ఊహించుకోండి.
Imagine you saved the word “ephemeral” from an article about a spectacular meteor shower.
ఆ తర్వాత కేవలం ఇది మాత్రమే చూసే బదులు:
Later, instead of seeing only:
“ephemeral = కొద్దిసేపే నిలిచేది”
“ephemeral = short-lived”
మీరు ఆ పదాన్ని మొదట చూసిన వాక్యం, భావనతో కూడా మళ్లీ అనుసంధానించుకోవచ్చు.
you can also reconnect it with the sentence and idea where you first encountered it.
బెన్ గారు: అంటే సందర్భం ఆ పదానికి నిలిచే ఒక చోటును ఇస్తుంది.
Ben: So context gives the word somewhere to live.
క్లారా గారు: దాన్ని చెప్పడానికి అది చక్కని విధానం.
Clara: That's a nice way to put it.
It doesn't mean that adding more information automatically makes every memory stronger. But learning vocabulary involves more than storing a translation. You're gradually building knowledge about the word's form, sound, meaning and use.
దాన్ని వేర్వేరు ఉపయోగకరమైన మార్గాల్లో చూడటం, గుర్తుకు తెచ్చుకోవడం ద్వారా ఆ అనుసంధానాలను బలోపేతం చేయవచ్చు.
Meeting and retrieving it in different useful ways can strengthen those connections.
బెన్ గారు: ఇది Vocafyలో ఎలా పనిచేస్తుంది?
Ben: How does that fit into Vocafy?
క్లారా గారు: మీరు సేవ్ చేసిన పదజాలాన్ని Vocafy దాని అభ్యాస సందర్భం, చరిత్రతో అనుసంధానించి ఉంచుతుంది.
Clara: Vocafy keeps the vocabulary you save connected with your learning context and history.
కాబట్టి మీరు చదువుతున్నప్పుడు, ఏదైనా చూస్తున్నప్పుడు లేదా ఇతర కంటెంట్తో పని చేస్తున్నప్పుడు కనుగొన్న పదం లేదా పదబంధం, ఆ కార్యకలాపం ముగిసిన వెంటనే కనుమరుగవాల్సిన అవసరం లేదు.
So a word or phrase you discover while reading, watching something or working with other content doesn't have to disappear when that activity ends.
మీరు సేవ్ చేసిన పదజాలాన్ని పునశ్చరణ ద్వారా మళ్లీ చూసి, వేర్వేరు విధాలుగా అభ్యసించవచ్చు.
You can return to saved vocabulary through review and practise it in different ways.
బెన్ గారు: అంటే విరామ పునశ్చరణ అనేది వేరుగా ఉండే కార్డుల కట్టలా కాకుండా, మరింత పెద్ద వ్యవస్థలో భాగమవుతుంది.
Ben: So spaced review becomes part of a bigger system rather than a separate deck of cards.
క్లారా గారు: సరిగ్గా చెప్పారు.
Clara: Exactly.
The system can help bring vocabulary back over time, while different activities let you work with that vocabulary through recall, listening, writing, sentence completion and other forms of practice.
సేవ్ చేసిన పదాలతో వాటి సందర్భాన్ని కూడా ఉంచుకోవచ్చు కాబట్టి, పునశ్చరణ అంటే సంబంధం లేని పదజోడులను పదేపదే కంఠస్థం చేయాల్సిన అవసరం లేదు.
And because saved words can keep their context, review doesn't have to mean repeatedly memorising disconnected word pairs.
బెన్ గారు: నేను ఏదైనా సులభంగా గుర్తుంచుకుంటే ఏం జరుగుతుంది?
Ben: What happens when I remember something easily?
క్లారా గారు: విరామ వ్యవస్థలో ఆ అంశం తక్కువసార్లు కనిపించడం సాధారణంగా సమంజసం.
Clara: In a spaced system, it generally makes sense for that item to appear less frequently.
ఇంకో పదం పదేపదే జ్ఞాపకం నుంచి మాయమవుతుంటే, ఇప్పటికే సులభంగా గుర్తున్న పదాన్ని రేపు పునశ్చరణ చేయడానికి సమయం ఎందుకు వెచ్చించాలి?
Why spend tomorrow reviewing something that is already easy when another word keeps disappearing from memory?
మీ జ్ఞాపకం మరింత నమ్మదగినదిగా మారుతున్న కొద్దీ, పునశ్చరణల మధ్య విరామం పెరగవచ్చు.
As your memory becomes more reliable, the interval can grow.
బెన్ గారు: నేను మర్చిపోతే?
Ben: And if I forget?
క్లారా గారు: అప్పుడు మీ అభ్యాసం గురించి ఉపయోగకరమైన విషయం తెలుసుకున్నట్లే.
Clara: Then you've learned something useful about your learning.
ఆ పదానికి బహుశా మరింత శ్రద్ధ అవసరం. కాబట్టి అది త్వరగా మళ్లీ రావచ్చు.
The word probably needs more attention, so it can return sooner.
అభ్యాసం చేస్తున్నప్పుడు మర్చిపోవడం విపత్తు కాదు. నిజానికి, పొరపాటుకు పెద్ద మూల్యం చెల్లించాల్సిన అవసరం లేనప్పుడే మన బలహీనతలను గుర్తించడం కూడా మనం అభ్యసించడానికి ఒక కారణం.
Forgetting during practice isn't a disaster. In fact, one reason we practise is to discover weaknesses while the stakes are low.
బెన్ గారు: ఎరుపు రంగులో కనిపించే “తప్పు” సమాధానాన్ని చూసే దృక్పథం అలా ఉంటే ఎంతో మంచిది.
Ben: That's a much nicer way of looking at the red “wrong” answer.
క్లారా గారు: నిజమే.
Clara: It is.
పునశ్చరణ అనేది పరీక్ష కాదు. అది అభ్యాస ప్రక్రియలో భాగం.
A review isn't an exam. It's part of the learning process.
బెన్ గారు: అయితే ఇంకా ఒక సమస్య ఉంది.
Ben: There's still one problem, though.
నేను ఇంతకుముందు విరామ పునరావృత యాప్లను వాడాను. కొన్ని రోజులు అవి అద్భుతంగా ఉంటాయి. ఆపై అకస్మాత్తుగా చేయాల్సిన పునశ్చరణలు గుట్టలా పేరుకుపోతాయి.
I've used spaced-repetition apps before. They're wonderful for a few days, and then suddenly I have a mountain of reviews waiting for me.
ఆ సమయంలో యాప్ను మూసేసి, దాన్ని ఎప్పుడూ ఇన్స్టాల్ చేయనట్లే నటించడం శాస్త్రీయంగా అత్యుత్తమ మార్గంలా అనిపిస్తుంది.
At that point, the scientifically optimal thing seems to be closing the app and pretending I never installed it.
క్లారా గారు: అక్కడే అభ్యాస శాస్త్రం నిజ జీవితాన్ని కలుస్తుంది.
Clara: And that's where learning science meets real life.
సిద్ధాంతపరంగా సమర్థమైన షెడ్యూల్ను మీరు వాడటం మానేస్తే, దానివల్ల పెద్దగా ఉపయోగం ఉండదు.
A theoretically efficient schedule isn't very useful if you stop using it.
మీరు ఎన్ని కొత్త అంశాలను జోడిస్తున్నారనేది ముఖ్యం. వాస్తవంగా ఎంత పునశ్చరణను కొనసాగించగలరనేది కూడా ముఖ్యం. ఒక రోజు చేయలేకపోయినంత మాత్రాన వ్యవస్థను పాడుచేసినట్లు కాదు.
The number of new items you add matters. The amount of review you can realistically sustain matters. And missing a day doesn't mean you've ruined the system.
బెన్ గారు: అంటే ప్రసిద్ధ “ప్రతి ఉదయం సరిగ్గా పది నిమిషాలు, ఎప్పటికీ” అనే నియమం మనకు అవసరం లేదా?
Ben: So we don't need the famous “exactly ten minutes every morning forever” rule?
క్లారా గారు: అలాంటి మాయా సంఖ్య ఏదీ లేదు.
Clara: No magic number.
విస్తృతమైన సూత్రం ఏమిటంటే, అన్నింటినీ ఒకే సెషన్లో బట్టీ పట్టడం కంటే విరామాలతో చేసే అభ్యాసం సాధారణంగా దీర్ఘకాలిక జ్ఞాపకానికి మెరుగైనది.
The broader principle is that distributed practice is usually better for long-term retention than cramming everything into one session.
ఒక భారీ అధ్యయన సెషన్ తర్వాత వారం రోజుల పాటు ఏమీ చేయకుండా ఉండటం కంటే, మీరు క్రమంగా మళ్లీ చేయగల చిన్న సెషన్ తరచూ మరింత ఉపయోగకరంగా ఉంటుంది.
A short session that you can realistically return to is often more useful than an enormous study session followed by a week of nothing.
అయితే మీరు నిజంగా కొనసాగించగలిగినదే ఉత్తమమైన దినచర్య.
But the best routine is one you can actually maintain.
బెన్ గారు: అలాగే భాష నేర్చుకునే సమయమంతా పునశ్చరణలకే కేటాయించకూడదు కదా?
Ben: And presumably we shouldn't spend our entire language-learning life doing reviews either.
క్లారా గారు: అస్సలు కేటాయించకూడదు.
Clara: Definitely not.
పదజాలాన్ని గుర్తుంచుకోవడం ముఖ్యం. కానీ భాష నేర్చుకోవడమంటే పదజాలాన్ని కంఠస్థం చేయడం కంటే చాలా పెద్ద విషయం.
Remembering vocabulary is important, but language learning is bigger than memorising vocabulary.
చదవండి. వినండి. సంభాషించండి. రాయండి. కొత్త భాషా వాడుకలను పరిచయం చేసుకోండి.
Read. Listen. Have conversations. Write things. Encounter new language.
ఆ ఇతర పనులు చేస్తున్నప్పుడు ముఖ్యమైన పదాలు మీకు అందుబాటులో ఉండేలా చేయడంలో విరామ పునరావృతం సహాయపడుతుంది కాబట్టి అది ఉపయోగకరమైనది.
Spaced repetition is useful because it helps important words stay available while you do those other things.
అది భాషా వాడకానికి తోడ్పడాలి, దాని స్థానాన్ని భర్తీ చేయకూడదు.
It should support language use, not replace it.
బెన్ గారు: అయితే ఈ హంగామా అంతా పక్కన పెడితే, అసలు భావన ఏమిటి?
Ben: So if we strip away all the hype, what's the real idea?
క్లారా గారు: ఒక్కసారి పరిచయం కావడం వల్ల శాశ్వత జ్ఞాపకం ఏర్పడుతుందని ఆశించకండి.
Clara: Don't expect one exposure to create a permanent memory.
ముఖ్యమైన విషయాలను కాలక్రమంలో మళ్లీ చూడండి. వాటిని కేవలం మళ్లీ చదవడానికి బదులుగా గుర్తుకు తెచ్చుకోవడానికి ప్రయత్నించండి. కష్టమైన అంశాలకు మరింత శ్రద్ధ ఇవ్వండి; సులభమైన వాటి మధ్య విరామాన్ని క్రమంగా పెంచండి.
Return to important things over time. Try to retrieve them instead of simply rereading them. Give difficult items more attention and easy ones increasingly more space.
సాధ్యమైనప్పుడల్లా, పదజాలాన్ని దానికి నిజంగా అర్థం వచ్చే భాషా సందర్భంతో అనుసంధానించి ఉంచండి.
And whenever possible, keep vocabulary connected to the language where it actually means something.
బెన్ గారు: అంటే మనం నిజంగా మర్చిపోవడాన్ని ఓడించడం లేదు.
Ben: So we're not really defeating forgetting.
క్లారా గారు: లేదు. మర్చిపోవడం జ్ఞాపకశక్తిలో భాగం.
Clara: No. Forgetting is part of memory.
దాన్ని దృష్టిలో పెట్టుకుని మనం అభ్యాసాన్ని రూపొందిస్తున్నాం.
We're designing practice around it.
బెన్ గారు: “మీ మెదడును హ్యాక్ చేసి ఇక ఎప్పుడూ ఏదీ మర్చిపోకండి” అనే మాట కంటే ఇది నిజానికి మరింత ఆసక్తికరంగా ఉందనిపిస్తోంది.
Ben: I think that's actually more interesting than “hack your brain and never forget anything.”
క్లారా గారు: మరింత వాస్తవికంగా కూడా ఉంది.
Clara: Much more realistic too.
బెన్ గారు: క్లారా గారు, మనం ఎందుకు మర్చిపోతామో గుర్తు చేసినందుకు ధన్యవాదాలు.
Ben: Clara, thanks for helping us remember why we forget.
క్లారా గారు: నాకూ సంతోషమే.
Clara: My pleasure.
బెన్ గారు: వింటున్న అందరికీ: మీరు ఇటీవల నేర్చుకున్న పదం ఏదైనా ఇప్పటికీ గుర్తుంటే, సమాధానం చూడకముందే దాన్ని మరోసారి గుర్తుకు తెచ్చుకోవడానికి ఈ రోజే మంచి సమయం కావచ్చు.
Ben: And to everyone listening: if there's a word you learned recently and can still remember right now, maybe today is a good time to try recalling it again — before looking at the answer.
