In the morning, Pinocchio went to school. The other boys saw a marionette in the classroom. They laughed and played tricks on Pinocchio. They were not very kind.
One boy pulled Pinocchio’s hat. Another boy pulled his coat. One boy tried to paint a mustache on Pinocchio’s nose. They even tried to make him dance with strings.
Pinocchio stayed quiet for a long time. Then he told the boys to stop. He said he wanted respect. The boys laughed and called him "Dr. Know-all."
One boy tried to pull Pinocchio’s nose. Pinocchio kicked the boy’s leg under the table. The boy cried because Pinocchio's wooden feet were very hard.
Pinocchio hit another boy with his elbow. Now the boys respected Pinocchio. They began to like him. They played with him and were nice to him.
The teacher liked Pinocchio too. Pinocchio worked hard. He was always the first person to arrive at school. He was the last person to leave.
But Pinocchio had too many friends. Some of these friends were bad boys. They did not like to study. The teacher and the Fairy with the Azure Hair warned Pinocchio.
The Fairy with the Azure Hair said, "Be careful! These bad friends will lead you away from school." But Pinocchio thought he was too wise to have problems.
One day, some boys met Pinocchio on the road. They told him a big shark was near the shore. They said the shark (a large fish with many sharp teeth) was as big as a mountain.
Pinocchio wanted to see the shark. He thought it was the same shark from the story about Geppetto. But Pinocchio said he must go to school first.
The boys laughed at Pinocchio. They said he could go to school tomorrow. They said mothers and teachers did not know anything. They told Pinocchio to come now.
Pinocchio said, "I will go after school." But the boys said the shark would leave. Pinocchio decided to go with them. He was a very simpleton (a person who is easily tricked) boy.
The boys ran to the sea. Pinocchio ran very fast. He ran like he had wings. He did not know that his disobedience would bring trouble.
