How Vocafy works

A shared memory that connects your learning

Whenever you find a useful word or phrase in a text, video, or song, you can save it to your personal vocabulary. If there’s a source sentence, definition, or translation attached, it gets saved right alongside it.

Vocafy does more than just list the words you’ve collected. It tracks what you are currently studying, what you already know, where you originally found a phrase, and how you’ve practiced it.

Later, if you encounter that exact same word in a completely different piece of content, you’ll immediately see that it’s already part of your vocabulary.

We call this the Learning Memory. The concept is simple: you never have to start your learning from scratch when switching activities.

Create, import, or choose your content

Create your own materials

Tell Vocafy what you’re interested in, what language you’re learning, and your current proficiency level. The built-in AI can help you create the content, or generate it entirely from a simple prompt.

You can create short reading exercises, multi-chapter graded readers, quizzes, or thematic vocabulary lists. You can even generate a digital vocab list just by snapping a photo of a textbook page or your handwritten notes.

Bring in what you already have

Copy and paste your own texts or import existing files. With our browser extension, you can pull articles and YouTube videos directly into Vocafy. Using the built-in text recognition, you can even turn photos of physical documents into editable vocabulary lists.
This means a web article, a YouTube video, a textbook, and your personal notes can all live inside the same learning environment.

If you don't want to bring your own content, you can explore our built-in graded books, short stories, dialogues, videos, and songs with synced lyrics. We also offer text and audio materials generated from up-to-date news.
You can freely combine your own materials with ready-made content.

Learn directly from your content

While reading, watching a video, or listening to music, simply click on any word or phrase to instantly see its meaning—no need to open a separate dictionary.

If it’s a word you want to remember, you can save it to your core vocabulary or a custom collection. In supported texts, visual cues will show you which words you are currently learning and which ones you already know. The same approach also works with video subtitles and synced song lyrics.

What you save stays with you

You might first discover a phrase while reading a book. Later, you might see it pop up in a video, practice it in a listening exercise, review it in your flashcards, or use it during a conversation with the AI chatbot.

You don't need to maintain separate vocabulary lists for reading, watching, and reviewing. Wherever the system allows, you are always working with the exact same personal vocabulary.

Track and practice your vocabulary

Vocafy gives you a clear overview of what you’ve saved, where it came from, what you are actively learning, and what you’ve marked as known. You can set personal study goals, and if you aren’t a beginner, you can use a quick assessment tool to mark large batches of common words as "known" right away.

During spaced-repetition reviews, you’ll interact with your vocabulary in multiple ways: multiple-choice questions, active recall, sentence completion, typing, and listening comprehension. If you aren't in the mood for active exercises, you can just sit back and listen to your saved words and example sentences in audio mode.

Build custom collections

In Vocafy, custom vocabulary collections are called Voca sets.
You can create a survival list for an upcoming trip, extract key terms from a novel, focus on industry-specific jargon, or simply round up all the new words you encountered this week.

You can build these sets manually, via import, image recognition, AI generation, or by saving words directly from other Vocafy content. Voca sets also function as customizable audio playlists: you control the order of the languages spoken, the length of the pauses, and the number of repetitions.

Chat and use the language actively

Chat freely with your AI tutor, ask for grammar explanations, practice specific vocabulary, or roleplay real-world scenarios (like navigating an airport or doing a job interview). You have full control over the tutor’s personality, how deeply it explains things, and how strictly it corrects your mistakes.

Chat has access to your learning history and the vocabulary you are currently studying in Vocafy. Because of this context, the AI can naturally weave your target words into the conversation, drop a quick quiz into the chat, prompt you with a scheduled review, or offer to save a new word that comes up organically. The Chat isn't an isolated feature—it actively connects to everything else you are learning on the platform.

Practice your pronunciation

Vocafy features a dedicated area for pronunciation practice.You can start a pronunciation session from a word you are learning or from a Voca set. Record your voice, listen back, and get feedback on accuracy, fluency, intonation, and whether all the words were spoken correctly. Errors can also be shown at syllable and phoneme level, and you can track how your performance changes across repeated attempts.

Create and solve quizzes

The Quiz is a standalone practice tool. It is perfect for when you don't want to do your general spaced-repetition reviews, but instead want to test yourself on a specific topic or material.
You can build a quiz manually, let the AI generate one, or base it on an existing Voca set. Quizzes feature a mix of multiple-choice, fill-in-the-blank, word-ordering, and audio-based questions.

Follow lessons for guided learning

If you don't always want to decide what to study next, the Lessons feature offers a guided learning path.
Lessons provide grammar explanations alongside interactive target-language examples. You can listen to the audio for these examples and add any unfamiliar words to your personal vocabulary with a single click. Starting a lesson doesn't lock you into a rigid curriculum—you are always free to step away and use Vocafy’s other features whenever you like.
