Come back to words before they disappear from memory
Saving a word does not mean you have learned it.
You may understand it clearly when you first see it, then struggle to remember it a few days later. A word can also feel familiar when you read it but be much harder to recall when you need it yourself.
Daily Practice gives the vocabulary you are learning a place to return to.
Instead of searching through your saved words and deciding what to revise each day, Vocafy keeps track of the vocabulary that is due for practice and brings it back over time.
You can see what is ready to practise now, what new vocabulary is planned for today and how much vocabulary is currently part of your practice.
Do more than look at a flashcard
There is more than one way to know a word.
Sometimes it is enough to recognise the correct meaning. At other times, you need to remember the word without seeing it, complete a sentence or understand it from audio.
Daily Practice lets you work with the same vocabulary in several ways.
You can choose the kind of practice that fits what you want to work on instead of repeating the same type of question every time.
Start simple with self-review
Sometimes you just want to go through your vocabulary quickly.
In Swipe, you first look at the word or phrase and its information, then decide whether you are still learning it or already knew it.
This gives you a simple way to work through vocabulary without having to type an answer or complete a test each time.
It can be useful for a quick review or when you want to check how familiar your current vocabulary feels.
Choose the right answer
In Pick, you are given several possible answers and choose the one that matches the word, meaning or context.
This is useful when you want to practise recognising vocabulary without having to produce the answer completely from memory.
The alternatives are there to make you look at the meaning carefully rather than simply recognise the shape of a familiar word.
Complete the sentence
Knowing the translation of a word and knowing how it fits into a sentence are not always the same thing.
In Cloze, part of an example sentence is missing and you type the word or expression that belongs there.
The surrounding sentence gives you clues, but you still have to remember what fits the context.
This lets you practise vocabulary closer to the way you originally met or might later use it.
Recall and write the word yourself
In Write, the answer is not shown among several choices.
You have to remember the target word or phrase and type it yourself.
This requires more active recall than simply recognising the right answer.
Vocafy can also distinguish a small typing mistake from a completely different answer, so a minor typo does not have to mean that you failed to remember the word.
Practise from what you hear
A word can be easy to recognise on a page and still be difficult to understand when someone says it.
Daily Practice therefore also includes activities that start with audio.
In Audio Pick, you hear the target-language word or expression and choose what you heard.
In Audio Write, you hear it and type it yourself.
These activities let you practise recognising vocabulary without first seeing the written form.
Listen when you want a lighter form of practice
You do not always have to answer questions.
You can also listen to the vocabulary you are learning with audio playback.
This gives you another way to spend time with the same words and phrases when you would rather listen than work through individual exercises.
For longer and more configurable listening sessions with your vocabulary and Voca Sets, Vocafy also has a dedicated Listening Practice feature.
Correct a mistake without losing your place
It is easy to tap the wrong answer or realise immediately that you judged a word incorrectly.
Daily Practice lets you undo your most recent decision.
You can correct the mistake and continue the session instead of leaving an accidental answer in your practice history.
See what you did at the end
When you finish a practice round, Vocafy gives you a summary of the session.
You can see how much vocabulary you worked with and how the session went, including words you recalled and words that still need more work.
From there, you can continue with another activity or return to your vocabulary.
Practice is connected to your own vocabulary
Daily Practice does not use a separate vocabulary list created only for exercises.
It works with the words and phrases you are learning in Vocafy.
You can manage that vocabulary in My Knowledge, where you can see what you are learning, change learning states, browse saved words and look at your progress and history.
Because this vocabulary is also part of Vocafy’s Learning Memory, the same words can come from other supported activities too. A phrase you saved while reading or watching something can later become part of your practice.
Keep working with what you want to learn
Review your vocabulary through recognition, recall, writing, sentences and listening.
