Once upon a time, an old goat lived with her seven little kids. She loved them very much. One day, she had to go into the forest to find food. She called her children and said, "Dear children, I am going out. Be careful! If the wolf comes in, he will eat you all. You will know him by his rough voice and his black feet."

"Don't worry, mother," the kids said. "We will be careful."

Soon after, someone knocked on the door. "Open the door, children! Your mother is here." But the kids heard the rough voice. "We won't open the door," they cried. "You are the wolf!"

The wolf went to a shop and bought a large piece of chalk. He ate it to make his voice soft. He returned and knocked again. But he put his black paws against the window. "We won't open the door," the kids shouted. "Our mother doesn't have black feet!"

The wolf ran to a baker and a miller. He forced them to cover his paws with white flour. For the third time, he went to the house. When the kids saw the white paws, they believed him and opened the door.

The wolf jumped inside! The terrified kids tried to hide. One went under the table, another into the bed, and others in the kitchen or the cupboard. The wolf found them all and swallowed them wholeexcept for the youngest, who was hiding inside the big clock.

When the wolf was full, he went outside and fell asleep under a tree. Soon, the mother goat came home. She found the house in a mess and her children gone. Then, a tiny voice called from the clock, "Mother, I am here!"

The youngest kid told her everything. They went outside and found the wolf snoring. The mother saw something moving inside the wolf’s stomach. "Could they still be alive?" she wondered. She quickly got some scissors and a needle. She cut open the wolf’s stomach, and all six kids jumped out! They were safe because the greedy wolf had swallowed them whole.

"Now, find some big stones," the mother said. They filled the wolf's stomach with heavy stones and she sewed him up. When the wolf woke up, he felt very thirsty. He walked to a well to drink, but the stones rattled inside him.

"What is hitting my bones?" he cried. "It feels like stones!" When he leaned over the water, the heavy stones pulled him down, and he drowned in the well. The seven kids and their mother danced for joy.
