I often wonder if he will ever come back. Did he travel far into the past? Perhaps he is fighting for his life among the wild men of the Stone Age, or looking for a safe place among huge dinosaurs.

Or did he go forward? I like to think he found a better future, a time where humans have finally solved all the world's problems. However, my friend did not have much hope. He always believed that our modern society would eventually destroy itself. If he was right, we must still go on living the best we can today.

To me, the future is now a dark and unknown place. But I still have one thing to comfort me. I have kept the two strange flowers. They are dry and brown now, but they prove something beautiful. Even at the end of the world, when human intelligence and strength had completely disappeared, love and kindness still lived on in the human heart.
