The Time Traveler came back. For a long time, he was not awake on the machine. He was very tired and his mind was blank. Soon, the days and nights started to move fast again. The sun became golden and the sky became blue.

The Time Traveler could breathe easily again. He saw the houses of his own time. The hands on the dials (small clocks that show numbers) moved backward very fast. Finally, the million dial was at zero. He slowed the machine down.

The Time Traveler saw the walls of his laboratory (a room where a scientist works). He saw something very strange. When he started his journey, he saw Mrs. Watchett walk across the room very fast. Now, he saw her again, but she moved backward. She walked backward through the door and disappeared.

The Time Traveler stopped the machine. He saw his tools and his books. Everything was exactly the same. He got off the machine, but his legs were weak. He sat on his bench and shook for many minutes. He felt like he was waking up from a dream.

But the journey was real. The machine was not in the same place. It started in one corner of the room. It stopped in a different corner against the wall. This happened because the Morlocks (the dangerous creatures from the future) moved the machine in the future.

The Time Traveler felt very dirty and his feet hurt. He walked into the dining room. He saw a newspaper on the table. The date was today. The time was almost eight o’clock. He heard his friends talking in the next room.

The Time Traveler smelled the meat on the table. He felt very weak and hungry. He opened the door and saw his friends. You know what happened next. He washed his face, he ate his dinner, and then he told his story.
