Pinocchio walked through the darkness toward the light. The floor was slippery and it smelled like fish.
The light became brighter. Finally, Pinocchio saw a table. A candle was on the table. A little old man sat at the table. He was eating small fish.
Pinocchio was very happy. He shouted, "Father! Dear Father! I found you!"
He ran to the old man and hugged him. The old man was Geppetto.
Geppetto said, "Is it really you, Pinocchio?"
Pinocchio said, "Yes, it is I! Please forgive me, Father. I have had many troubles."
Pinocchio told Geppetto his whole story. He told him about the theater and the gold pieces. He told him about the Fox and the Cat.
Pinocchio told him about the giant oak tree and the Blue Fairy. He told him about the Land of Toys and the donkey ears.
Geppetto listened to everything. Then Geppetto told his story. He said, "I was in a small boat. A storm came and the boat turned over. Then the Shark swallowed me."
Pinocchio asked, "How did you live for two years?"
Geppetto said, "The Shark swallowed a large ship. The ship had food and candles and matches. I have lived on that food. But today, the food is finished. This is my last candle."
Pinocchio said, "Then we must leave now. We must escape!"
Geppetto asked, "How can we escape?"
Pinocchio said, "We will walk out of the Shark's mouth. Then we will swim to the shore."
Geppetto said, "But I cannot swim."
Pinocchio said, "You can sit on my shoulders. I am a good swimmer. I will carry you."
Pinocchio took the candle. He told Geppetto to follow him. They walked through the stomach of the Shark.
They reached the throat of the monster. The Shark was very old. He slept with his mouth open because of his asthma.
Pinocchio saw the stars in the sky through the Shark's mouth. He whispered, "The Shark is asleep. The sea is calm. Follow me, Father."
They walked on the Shark's tongue. The tongue was very long and wide. But suddenly, the Shark sneezed.
The sneeze threw Pinocchio and Geppetto back into the stomach. The candle went out. They were in the dark again.
Pinocchio said, "Give me your hand, Father. We will try again."
They climbed up to the mouth a second time. They walked over the teeth. Pinocchio told Geppetto to sit on his back.
Geppetto sat on Pinocchio's shoulders. Pinocchio jumped into the water. He began to swim.
The moon was bright. The Shark did not wake up. Pinocchio swam away with his father.
