बेन: Vocafy Unpacked में फिर से स्वागत है। मैं बेन हूँ और मेरे साथ क्लारा हैं। आज बात करते हैं एक ऐसी चीज़ की, जिसके कारण भाषा सीखना बहुत भारी लग सकता है: शब्दों की बेहिसाब संख्या। आखिर शुरुआत कहाँ से की जाए?

Ben: Welcome back to Vocafy Unpacked. I'm Ben, and I'm joined by Clara. Today, let's talk about something that can make language learning feel overwhelming: the sheer number of words. Where do you even begin?

क्लारा: यह याद रखना एक अच्छी शुरुआत है कि हर शब्द आपके लिए एक जैसा ज़रूरी नहीं होता। कुछ शब्द हर तरह की बातचीत में बार-बार आते हैं। दूसरे शब्द शायद किसी खास नौकरी या शौक में ही काम आएँ। आम शब्दों पर ज़्यादा ध्यान देने से सचमुच बड़ा फर्क पड़ सकता है।

Clara: A good starting point is remembering that you don't need every word equally. Some appear constantly, across all kinds of conversations. Others might be useful only in a particular job or hobby. Giving the common ones more attention can make a real difference.

बेन: क्या यही 80/20 का नियम है? यानी आप जो सीखते हैं, उसका एक छोटा-सा हिस्सा आपको बहुत ज़्यादा फायदा देता है?

Ben: Is that the 80/20 rule? A small part of what you learn gives you a large part of the benefit?

क्लारा: हाँ, यही इसकी उपयोगी सीख है। ये संख्याएँ भाषा सीखने का कोई सटीक फ़ॉर्मूला नहीं हैं, लेकिन सिद्धांत सही है: पहले उस भाषा पर ध्यान दें जिसे आप बार-बार सुनेंगे, पढ़ेंगे और इस्तेमाल करेंगे।

Clara: That's the useful idea. The numbers aren't an exact formula for language learning, but the principle makes sense: focus first on language you're likely to meet and use often.

बेन: हम किस तरह के शब्दों की बात कर रहे हैं?

Ben: What kind of words are we talking about?

क्लारा: अंग्रेज़ी में “want” (चाहना), “need” (ज़रूरत होना), “go” (जाना), “know” (जानना), “time” (समय) और “help” (मदद) जैसे शब्दों के बारे में सोचिए। ये कई तरह की स्थितियों में काम आते हैं। फिर “because” (क्योंकि), “if” (अगर) और “but” (लेकिन) जैसे शब्द हैं, जो विचारों को जोड़ने में आपकी मदद करते हैं।

Clara: In English, think of words like “want,” “need,” “go,” “know,” “time” and “help.” They come up in all sorts of situations. Then there are words like “because,” “if” and “but,” which help you connect your ideas.

बेन: यानी कुछ उपयोगी शब्द कई अलग-अलग काम कर सकते हैं।

Ben: So a few useful words can do a lot of different jobs.

क्लारा: बिल्कुल। “I need help.” (मुझे मदद चाहिए।) “Do you need more time?” (क्या आपको और समय चाहिए?) “We need to go.” (हमें जाना है।) आप परिचित हिस्सों का इस्तेमाल करके अलग-अलग बातें व्यक्त कर पाते हैं। इसीलिए रोज़मर्रा की मज़बूत शब्दावली बनाना मेहनत के लायक है।

Clara: Exactly. “I need help.” “Do you need more time?” “We need to go.” You're working with familiar pieces, but expressing different things. That's why building a strong everyday vocabulary is worth the effort.

बेन: मैंने सुना है कि एक या दो हज़ार शब्द रोज़मर्रा की भाषा का ज़्यादातर हिस्सा बनाते हैं। तो क्या इन्हें सीख लेने के बाद मुझे लगभग सब कुछ समझ आने लगेगा?

Ben: I've heard claims that a thousand or two thousand words cover most everyday language. Does that mean I'll understand almost everything once I learn them?

Clara: They'll give you a valuable foundation, but not the whole message every time. Imagine hearing “Your train has been cancelled” and missing “cancelled.” You might know nearly all the words and still miss the information you need.

बेन: खासकर जब मैं वहीं उस ट्रेन के इंतज़ार में हूँ।

Ben: Especially if I'm standing there waiting for that train.

क्लारा: सही कहा। इसलिए आम शब्दों का मज़बूत आधार बनाइए और उन स्थितियों से जुड़े शब्द भी जोड़िए जो आपके लिए मायने रखती हैं। अगली यात्रा में काम आने वाली भाषा सीखने से पहले आपको सबसे ज़्यादा इस्तेमाल होने वाले शब्दों की पूरी सूची खत्म करने की ज़रूरत नहीं है।

Clara: Right. So build the common core, and add words for situations that matter to you. You don't have to finish a frequency list before learning the language you need for your next trip.

बेन: इससे सब कुछ ज़्यादा व्यावहारिक लगता है। लेकिन सबसे आम शब्द मुझे मिलेंगे कैसे?

Ben: That makes the whole thing feel more practical. How do I find the common words in the first place?

Clara: A learner dictionary organised by frequency can help. Vocafy's dictionary puts more frequent words and meanings earlier, so you have a useful starting point. You can explore examples and common expressions, then choose what to practise.

बेन: क्या बस ऊपर से शुरू करके सूची में नीचे की ओर बढ़ना चाहिए?

Ben: Should I just start at the top and work my way down?

क्लारा: दिशा पाने के लिए आप उस क्रम का इस्तेमाल कर सकते हैं। लेकिन उसे उन कामों से जोड़ें जो आप करना चाहते हैं। अगर आप यात्रा की तैयारी कर रहे हैं, तो रोज़मर्रा की शब्दावली के साथ चेक-इन करने, खाना ऑर्डर करने और रास्ता पूछने के वाक्यांश भी सीखें।

Clara: You can use that order for guidance. But connect it to things you want to do. If you're preparing for travel, combine everyday vocabulary with phrases for checking in, ordering food and asking for directions.

बेन: अगर सीखने का मकसद काम हो तो?

Ben: What if I'm learning for work instead?

क्लारा: तब आपकी प्राथमिकताएँ थोड़ी अलग होंगी। रोज़मर्रा की भाषा की ज़रूरत फिर भी रहेगी, लेकिन आपके काम से जुड़े शब्दों पर शुरुआत में ही ध्यान देना उपयोगी हो सकता है। कोई शब्द आम बातचीत में कम सुनाई दे सकता है, लेकिन आपके रोज़ काम आ सकता है।

Clara: Then your priorities will look a little different. You still need everyday language, but words from your own work may deserve attention early. Something uncommon in general conversation could be something you use every day.

बेन: यानी कोई शब्द कितनी बार इस्तेमाल होता है, इससे मुझे शुरुआत का बिंदु मिलता है और अपनी ज़रूरतों के हिसाब से उसे बदला जा सकता है।

Ben: So frequency gives me a starting point, and my life helps me adjust it.

क्लारा: बिल्कुल। आपकी प्राथमिकताएँ भी बदल सकती हैं। छुट्टियों में काम आने वाली भाषा ज़रूरी नहीं कि उपन्यास पढ़ना शुरू करने या अंतरराष्ट्रीय सहकर्मियों के साथ काम करने के समय भी उतनी ही उपयोगी हो।

Clara: Exactly. And your priorities can change. The language you need for a holiday isn't necessarily the language you'll want when you start reading novels or working with international colleagues.

बेन: पहले से पहचाने हुए शब्दों का क्या? क्या उन्हें छोड़कर नए शब्द जोड़ते रहना चाहिए?

Ben: What about words I already recognise? Should I move past those and keep adding new ones?

क्लारा: कभी-कभी हाँ। लेकिन परिचित शब्दों में भी सीखने के लिए बहुत कुछ हो सकता है। “take” को ही लें: “take a seat” (बैठिए), “take your time” (आराम से समय लीजिए), “take a photo” (फ़ोटो लीजिए)। इन उपयोगी प्रयोगों को सीखने से आप पहले से आने वाले शब्द को कई और तरीकों से इस्तेमाल कर पाएँगे।

Clara: Sometimes. But familiar words can still have more to offer. Take “take”: “take a seat,” “take your time,” “take a photo.” Learning those useful combinations gives you more ways to use a word you already know.

बेन: हो सकता है कि मुझे “take your time” का हर शब्द पता हो, फिर भी उसे बोलने का खयाल न आए।

Ben: I might know every word in “take your time” and still not think to say it.

क्लारा: इसीलिए पूरे वाक्यांशों का अभ्यास करना भी मददगार है। “I’m not sure.” (मुझे यकीन नहीं है।) “Could you help me?” (क्या आप मेरी मदद कर सकते हैं?) “It depends.” (यह स्थिति पर निर्भर करता है।) इन्हें आप सीधे बातचीत में इस्तेमाल कर सकते हैं।

Clara: That's why it's helpful to practise whole expressions too. “I'm not sure.” “Could you help me?” “It depends.” These are things you can bring straight into a conversation.

बेन: ठीक है। मान लीजिए, पढ़ते समय मुझे दस अनजान शब्द मिले। क्या सभी दसों को सहेज लेना चाहिए?

Ben: All right. I'm reading something and find ten unfamiliar words. Do I save all ten?

क्लारा: आप चुन सकते हैं। इनमें से कौन-से शब्द बार-बार दिखाई देते हैं? किनकी मदद से आप अपनी बात कह पाएँगे? विषय समझने के लिए कौन-से ज़रूरी हैं? पहले उन्हीं से शुरुआत करें। बाकी शब्दों के अर्थ देख सकते हैं और पढ़ना जारी रख सकते हैं।

Clara: You can be selective. Which ones keep appearing? Which would help you say something? Which matter for understanding the topic? Start with those. You can look up the others and keep reading.

बेन: यानी हर दिलचस्प लेख को होमवर्क में बदलना ज़रूरी नहीं है।

Ben: I don't have to turn every interesting article into homework.

क्लारा: बिल्कुल। सामग्री का आनंद लेने और उससे सीखने—दोनों के लिए जगह होनी चाहिए। कुछ उपयोगी वाक्यांश चुनकर उन्हें बार-बार दोहराना शुरुआत का आसान तरीका हो सकता है।

Clara: Exactly. You want room for both enjoying the content and learning from it. A few useful expressions you return to can be a manageable place to start.

बेन: Vocafy में इसे व्यवहार में कैसे लाएँ?

Ben: How would you put this into practice in Vocafy?

क्लारा: कोई ऐसी स्थिति चुनिए जो आपके लिए मायने रखती हो। आप उपयोगी शब्दों, वाक्यांशों और उदाहरण वाक्यों वाला Voca सेट तैयार कर सकते हैं, अपनी सामग्री जोड़ सकते हैं या किसी मौजूदा संग्रह से शुरुआत कर सकते हैं। फिर पढ़ते या कुछ देखते समय मिलने वाले नए वाक्यांश उसमें जोड़ें।

Clara: Choose a situation you care about. You could generate a Voca set with useful words, phrases and example sentences, bring in your own material, or start with an existing collection. Then add expressions you discover while reading or watching something.

बेन: और संग्रह तैयार हो जाए, तो?

Ben: And once I've got that collection?

क्लारा: उसे सुनिए, वाक्यांशों को याद से बोलने का अभ्यास कीजिए और उन्हें इस्तेमाल करके देखिए। जवाब देने का समय पाने के लिए आप ऑडियो में विराम रख सकते हैं या ट्यूटर के साथ किसी संबंधित स्थिति का अभ्यास कर सकते हैं।

Clara: Listen to it, practise recalling the expressions, and try using them. You might leave pauses in the audio to give yourself time to answer, or work through a relevant situation with the tutor.

बेन: तो बात यह है कि उपयोगी भाषा चुनूँ और उसे इस्तेमाल करने के मौके बनाऊँ।

Ben: So I'm choosing useful language and giving myself chances to do something with it.

क्लारा: हाँ। और उसे अलग-अलग संदर्भों में बार-बार देखते-सुनते रहें। कोई कहानी, वीडियो या बातचीत आपको किसी वाक्यांश के इस्तेमाल का एक और तरीका दिखा सकती है। समय के साथ आप उन परिचित शब्दों को ज़्यादा तरीकों से इस्तेमाल कर पाएँगे।

Clara: Yes. And keep meeting it in context. A story, a video or a conversation can show you another way an expression is used. Over time, those familiar words become more flexible.

बेन: अगर मेरी शब्दावली ठीक-ठाक है, लेकिन अपनी बात कहने में अब भी मुश्किल होती है तो?

Ben: What if I already have a decent vocabulary but still struggle to express myself?

क्लारा: तब अगला उपयोगी कदम शायद उन शब्दों का अभ्यास करना हो जो आपको पहले से आते हैं। किसी ऐसी बात के बारे में सोचिए जिसे हाल में समझाना मुश्किल लगा। वे वाक्यांश खोजिए जो उस समय मदद करते और फिर उनका अभ्यास कीजिए। आगे बढ़ने का मतलब हमेशा नए शब्द जोड़ना नहीं होता।

Clara: Then your next useful step might be practising what you know. Think of something you recently struggled to explain. Find the expressions that would have helped, and work with those. Progress doesn't always mean adding more words.

बेन: यह बात अच्छी लगी। यह सवाल “मैंने कितने शब्द सीखे हैं?” से ज़्यादा स्पष्ट है।

Ben: I like that. It gives me a clearer question than “How many words have I learned?”

क्लारा: खुद से पूछिए, “अब किन बातों को समझना या कहना मेरे लिए आसान हो गया है?” शब्दों की गिनती आपकी प्रगति मापने में मदद कर सकती है, लेकिन सवाल पूछ पाना, किसी की बात समझ पाना या कोई समस्या बताना ही उस शब्दावली को सच में उपयोगी बनाता है।

Clara: Try asking, “What can I understand or express more easily now?” Word counts can help you track progress, but being able to ask a question, follow an explanation or describe a problem is what makes that vocabulary useful.

बेन: तो 80/20 के विचार की सीख यह है कि सबसे उपयोगी भाषा पर ज़्यादा ध्यान दिया जाए।

Ben: So the lesson from the 80/20 idea is to give the most useful language more of our attention.

क्लारा: बिल्कुल। आम शब्दों का मज़बूत आधार बनाइए, जो आपके लिए मायने रखता है उसे जोड़िए और इस्तेमाल करते रहिए। भाषा से कोई सार्थक काम शुरू करने के लिए सब कुछ एक साथ सीखना ज़रूरी नहीं है।

Clara: Exactly. Build a common foundation, add what matters to you, and keep using it. You don't need to learn everything at once to start doing something worthwhile with the language.

बेन: क्लारा, धन्यवाद। और सुन रहे सभी लोगों का भी धन्यवाद। Vocafy Unpacked में अगली बार फिर मिलेंगे।

Ben: Clara, thank you. And thanks to everyone listening. See you next time on Vocafy Unpacked.
