Maurice Leblanc was a French novelist and journalist from Rouen. In 1905 he created Arsène Lupin, the elegant gentleman thief, for the magazine Je sais tout, and went on to write many novels and short stories about him, which made Lupin one of the best-known characters of French popular fiction.
