Find something worth reading

Explore graded books in the language you are learning, including adapted public-domain classics and books shared by the Vocafy community.

Browse and filter the library to find something that matches your level and interests. Each book is divided into chapters, so you can work through longer material without having to read everything at once.

And if you cannot find the kind of book you want, you can create one yourself.

Create a graded reader for yourself

Start with almost any story idea or topic you would genuinely like to read about.

Choose your learning language, CEFR level and how long you want the book to be. Vocafy can then turn your idea into a coherent multi-chapter graded reader written for that level.

You can keep things simple and provide just the basic idea, or shape the story in much more detail.

You can choose the tone, the amount of dialogue, the intended audience, the setting and even a grammar focus you want to practise. You can also define your own main characters and add extra instructions about what should or should not happen in the story.

Want a light mystery set in Edinburgh with plenty of dialogue? A story for practising past tenses? An adventure featuring characters you invented yourself? These can all become starting points for a book.

Review the story before the book is written

Vocafy first creates an outline rather than immediately generating all the chapters.

You can review the planned story and make changes before creating the full book. This gives you more control over where the story is going and helps keep a longer story consistent from one chapter to the next.

Once you are happy with the outline, Vocafy creates the chapters and a cover for the finished book.

After that, you can use your book just like any other graded reader in Vocafy. Read it chapter by chapter, listen to it, look up unfamiliar words, save useful vocabulary and return to it later.

See what to expect before you read

A general CEFR level is useful, but two learners at the same level may know very different vocabulary.

Vocafy analyses the language in a book and can compare its vocabulary with your own learning memory. This gives you a more personal idea of how much of the text is already familiar and how much may be new to you.

You can also see information such as the estimated difficulty of the book, its vocabulary characteristics, chapter length and estimated reading time.

This can help you decide whether a book looks comfortable enough to read now or whether you would prefer something easier or more challenging.

Read without constantly leaving the text

Looking up every unfamiliar word in another dictionary or app quickly interrupts longer reading.

In the Vocafy reader, select a word to see its meaning or translation together with the sentence where you found it. If the word is useful, you can save it to your learning memory or add it to a Voca set.

Then simply continue reading from the same place.

When sentence translations are available, you can also switch to a bilingual view and read the original and translation together, either side by side or one below the other.

See the vocabulary in the text

Vocafy can highlight words according to their place in your learning process, making it easier to notice what is familiar, what you are learning and what is new.

You can also switch to part-of-speech colouring when you want to look at the language from a different angle and see how nouns, verbs, adjectives and other word types appear in a real text.

Read and listen together

A chapter does not have to be reading practice only.

Play the whole chapter continuously while following the text, or listen without reading and use it more like a graded audiobook.

You can adjust the playback speed and the pauses between sentences to make the audio easier to follow or gradually move towards more natural listening.

Make the reader comfortable

For longer reading sessions, you can adapt the reader to the way you prefer to read.

Choose a light, dark or sepia theme, change the font and text size, and switch to fullscreen mode when you want a cleaner reading view.

Keep what you learn

Words and expressions you save while reading become part of your Vocafy learning memory together with their context.

They do not have to stay inside the book where you first found them. They can become part of what you review and practise elsewhere in Vocafy.

This means the books you read can become part of a wider learning process rather than isolated reading exercises.

Create for yourself or share with others

A book you generate can remain private if it was made just for you.

You can also share it directly with someone else or submit it to the public Library for other learners to discover.

This can be useful for teachers too: they can create level-appropriate reading around a particular topic, grammar point, group of characters or class interest and then share it with their learners.
