Mandarin has few dummy placeholders, but some function elements feel “small” yet matter: classifiers, 的/地/得, aspect particles, and required localizers.

在目标语言中
French often requires structural placeholders such as il, ce, articles, copulas, or support verbs.
Il pleut.
It rains.
Learners may omit dummy il or choose ce/il incorrectly.
