The next morning, Victor Frankenstein went to the beach. He felt very lonely on the island. He wanted to stay there forever so he could be safe. But then he received a letter from Henry Clerval. Henry Clerval wanted Victor Frankenstein to come to the city of Perth. They needed to travel back to London together.
Victor Frankenstein decided to leave the island in two days. But first, he had to clean his laboratory. He saw the pieces of the female creature on the floor. He felt very sick when he looked at them. Victor Frankenstein did not want the local people to see the body parts.

After many hours, the wind stopped. Victor Frankenstein saw a line of land in the distance. He felt very happy and cried with joy. He used his clothes to make a small sail. He steered the boat toward the land. He saw a small town with a harbor.
Victor Frankenstein arrived at the town. He saw many people on the shore. He asked the people for the name of the town. But the people were not friendly. One man said Victor Frankenstein would not like this place. The people looked at Victor Frankenstein with angry faces.
Victor Frankenstein asked why they were so rude. A man told Victor Frankenstein that he must talk to a magistrate (an official person like a judge). The man said a gentleman was murdered the night before. The people thought Victor Frankenstein was the murderer.
Victor Frankenstein followed the men to a large house. He was very tired and hungry. He knew he was innocent, so he was not afraid yet. But Victor Frankenstein did not know that a very bad thing was about to happen. He was about to feel a new and terrible sadness.
