Ben: Estamos de volta ao Vocafy por Dentro. Eu sou o Ben e hoje falamos de tutores de IA.
Ben: Welcome back to Vocafy Unpacked. I'm Ben, and today we're talking about AI tutors.
Clara: Olá, Ben. Este tema é interessante, porque o chat com IA é provavelmente uma das ferramentas de aprendizagem de línguas mais fáceis de compreender. Abres uma conversa e começas a usar a língua.
Clara: Hi Ben. This is an interesting one because AI chat is probably one of the easiest language-learning tools to understand. You open a conversation and start using the language.
Ben: O que já parece bastante útil. Nem sempre tenho alguém disponível quando, de repente, decido que devia praticar espanhol às onze da noite.
Ben: Which already sounds pretty useful. I don't always have somebody available when I suddenly decide I should practise Spanish at eleven at night.
Clara: Exatamente. Ter alguém disponível para conversar quando queres praticar elimina um obstáculo muito concreto.
Clara: Exactly. A conversation partner that is available when you want to practise removes one very practical barrier.
Podes tentar exprimir uma ideia, pedir uma explicação quando não sabes como continuar e prosseguir enquanto a conversa te for útil.
You can try to express an idea, ask for an explanation when you're stuck and continue for as long as the conversation is useful to you.
Ben: Mas agora há chatbots de IA por todo o lado. Posso abrir um chatbot generalista e dizer: "Fala comigo em espanhol."
Ben: But there are AI chatbots everywhere now. I can open a general chatbot and say, "Talk to me in Spanish."
Então, porquê incluir um tutor num sistema de aprendizagem de línguas?
So why put a tutor inside a language-learning system?
Clara: Essa é a pergunta mais interessante.
Clara: That's the more interesting question.
A diferença não está apenas em ter outra IA capaz de conversar.
The difference isn't simply having another AI that can talk.
Está naquilo a que essa conversa pode estar ligada.
It's what the conversation can connect to.
Se o tutor souber algo sobre o vocabulário que já estás a aprender, conseguir recuperar parte desse vocabulário durante a conversa, incluir uma revisão real quando for adequado e ajudar-te a guardar algo útil que surja no chat, então a conversa passa a fazer parte de um processo de aprendizagem mais amplo.
If the tutor knows something about the vocabulary you're already learning, can bring some of that vocabulary back into conversation, can include a real review when appropriate and can help you save something useful that appears during the chat, then conversation becomes part of a larger learning process.
Ben: Assim, em vez de cada chat começar do zero, parte do que aprendo acompanha-me.
Ben: So instead of every chat beginning from a blank page, some of my learning can travel with me.
Clara: Essa é a ideia.
Clara: That's the idea.
Saber uma palavra quando a vês numa lista de vocabulário é uma coisa. Reconhecê-la numa frase é outra. E usá-la por iniciativa própria numa conversa pode ser ainda mais difícil.
Knowing a word when you see it in a vocabulary list is one thing. Being able to recognise it in a sentence is another. And producing it yourself during a conversation can be harder again.
A conversa oferece-te outro espaço para trabalhares com a língua que já encontraste.
Conversation gives you another place to work with language you have already encountered.
Ben: Antes de explorarmos essa ligação, que tipos de conversa posso ter?
Ben: Before we get into that connection, what kinds of conversations can I actually have?
Clara: Há várias formas de praticar.
Clara: There are several ways to practise.
Se só quiseres conversar, podes iniciar uma conversa livre sobre algo que te interesse.
If you simply want to talk, you can start a free conversation about something that interests you.
Se quiseres mais orientação, podes usar uma sessão de aula na qual o tutor apresenta um tema, explica conceitos e faz perguntas.
If you want more guidance, you can use a lesson session where the tutor can introduce a topic, explain things and ask questions.
Há uma sessão dedicada ao vocabulário para trabalhares mais diretamente com as palavras e expressões que estás a aprender.
There is a vocabulary-focused session for working more directly with words and expressions you're learning.
E há simulações de situações que poderás realmente enfrentar, como viajar, pedir comida ou participar numa entrevista de emprego.
And there is roleplay for situations you might actually face, such as travelling, ordering food or taking part in a job interview.
Ben: Gosto das simulações porque há um problema claro para resolver. Não fico ali a pensar: "Sobre o que devem duas pessoas falar hoje?"
Ben: I like roleplay because there's an obvious problem to solve. I'm not sitting there thinking, "What should two humans talk about today?"
Clara: Exatamente. A situação dá um objetivo à conversa.
Clara: Exactly. The situation gives the conversation a purpose.
Imagina que estás a aprender espanhol e a preparar uma viagem.
Let's imagine you're learning Spanish and you're preparing for a trip.
Escolhes uma simulação numa loja. O tutor assume o papel de quem atende e tu praticas a tua parte da interação.
You choose a shop roleplay. The tutor takes the role of the shop assistant and you practise your side of the interaction.
Ben: E é aqui que o meu vocabulário começa a entrar na conversa?
Ben: And this is where my vocabulary can start coming into it?
Clara: Sim.
Clara: Yes.
A conversa pode recorrer a palavras e expressões selecionadas que já estás a aprender, bem como a informação relevante disponível na Vocafy sobre elas.
Conversation can use selected words and expressions that you're already learning, together with some relevant information Vocafy has about them.
Numa conversa normal, isto pode ajudar o vocabulário útil a reaparecer de forma natural.
In a normal conversation, that can help useful vocabulary appear again naturally.
Numa sessão de vocabulário, o tutor pode concentrar-se mais diretamente nas palavras que estás a estudar ou que tens considerado difíceis.
In a vocabulary session, the tutor can focus more directly on words you're working on or words that have been difficult for you.
Ben: Dá-me um exemplo.
Ben: Give me an example.
Clara: Supõe que estás a aprender a expressão "Estoy buscando", que significa "Estou à procura de".
Clara: Suppose you've been learning "Estoy buscando", meaning "I'm looking for."
A conversa pode criar uma oportunidade natural para usares essa expressão.
The conversation could create a natural opportunity where that expression is useful.
O tutor pode assumir o papel de quem atende na loja e perguntar o que procuras.
The tutor might be playing a shop assistant and ask what it can help you find.
Agora, em vez de voltares a ver "Estoy buscando" num cartão de estudo, tens um motivo para usar a expressão.
Now instead of seeing "Estoy buscando" on a study card again, you have a reason to produce it.
Ben: Então, poderia responder: "Estoy buscando un regalo para mi amigo."
Ben: So I might answer, "Estoy buscando un regalo para mi amigo."
Clara: Exatamente.
Clara: Exactly.
E essa é uma distinção importante.
And that's an important distinction.
Não estás apenas a verificar se reconheces a expressão. Estás a tentar usá-la para comunicar algo.
You aren't only checking whether you recognise the expression. You're trying to use it to communicate something.
Ben: O tutor inclui o meu vocabulário à força em todas as frases?
Ben: Does the tutor constantly force my vocabulary into every sentence?
Clara: Não, e isso também não seria desejável.
Clara: No, and you wouldn't want that.
O objetivo não é transformar todas as conversas num teste de vocabulário disfarçado.
The point is not to turn every conversation into a disguised vocabulary test.
Numa conversa normal, o vocabulário selecionado pode reaparecer quando fizer sentido. Se escolheres especificamente a prática de vocabulário, a sessão pode concentrar-se muito mais no que estás a aprender.
In an ordinary chat, selected vocabulary can be brought back when it fits. If you specifically choose vocabulary practice, then the session can focus much more heavily on what you're learning.
Ben: Parece-me uma diferença útil entre apenas conversar e estudar de forma intencional através do chat.
Ben: That seems like a useful difference between just chatting and deliberately studying through chat.
Clara: E é. Por vezes, queres esquecer que estás a estudar e limitar-te a conversar.
Clara: It is. Sometimes you want to forget that you're studying and simply have a conversation.
Noutras ocasiões, talvez penses: "Tenho estas palavras no meu vocabulário, mas nunca as uso de facto."
At other times you might think, "I have these words in my vocabulary, but I never actually use them."
Nesse caso, faz sentido ter uma conversa dedicada ao vocabulário.
Then a vocabulary-focused conversation makes sense.
Ben: E se eu precisar de algo mais parecido com um teste durante a conversa?
Ben: And what happens if I need something more test-like during the conversation?
Clara: A Vocafy também pode trazer exercícios diretamente para o chat.
Clara: Vocafy can bring practice directly into the chat too.
Por exemplo, pode mostrar uma pergunta curta de escolha múltipla para verificares rapidamente o vocabulário.
For example, it can show a short multiple-choice question for a quick vocabulary check.
Mais importante ainda, também pode apresentar um item que esteja efetivamente previsto para revisão.
More importantly, it can also bring in an item that is actually due for review.
Ben: Quando dizes que está mesmo na altura de o rever, queres dizer que vem da minha revisão normal de vocabulário?
Ben: When you say actually due for review, you mean from my normal vocabulary review?
Clara: Exatamente.
Clara: Exactly.
Não estás a responder a uma pergunta fictícia que só existe dentro dessa conversa.
You're not answering a pretend question that exists only inside that conversation.
Um cartão de vocabulário cuja revisão esteja pendente pode surgir no chat. Respondes ali, e o resultado passa a fazer parte do teu histórico normal de revisões.
A vocabulary card that is due for review can appear in the chat. You answer it there, and the result becomes part of your normal review history.
Isso significa que pode afetar o momento em que esse item deverá voltar a aparecer.
That means it can affect when the item should appear again.
Ben: Isso é bastante diferente de uma IA se limitar a inventar um teste de vocabulário para mim.
Ben: That's quite different from an AI simply inventing a vocabulary quiz for me.
Clara: Sim. Ambos podem ser úteis, mas são coisas diferentes.
Clara: Yes. Both can be useful, but they're different things.
Um é uma pergunta criada no contexto da conversa.
One is a question generated as part of the conversation.
O outro está ligado ao vocabulário que estás realmente a aprender e ao respetivo histórico de revisões.
The other is connected to vocabulary you're actually learning and to its review history.
Ben: Assim, a conversa pode aceder ao sistema de aprendizagem.
Ben: So the conversation can reach into the learning system.
Clara: Sim, através das funcionalidades disponíveis.
Clara: In supported ways, yes.
E a ligação também pode funcionar no sentido inverso.
And the connection can also work in the other direction.
Ben: Queres dizer que a conversa também pode contribuir com algo?
Ben: Meaning the conversation can give something back?
Clara: Exatamente.
Clara: Exactly.
Imagina que o tutor usa uma expressão que nunca viste e pensas: "Isto é útil. Quero lembrar-me desta expressão."
Imagine the tutor uses a phrase you've never seen before and you think, "That's useful. I want to remember that."
Essa expressão não tem de ficar apenas na conversa.
Conversation doesn't have to be the end of that phrase.
A Vocafy pode propor que guardes uma palavra ou expressão útil, juntamente com uma frase de exemplo.
Vocafy can offer to save a useful word or expression together with an example sentence.
Ben: Automaticamente?
Ben: Automatically?
Clara: Pode fazer a sugestão, mas és tu que decides se queres adicioná-la.
Clara: It can offer it, but you decide whether to add it.
Nada passa a fazer parte do teu vocabulário pessoal sem a tua aprovação.
Nothing becomes part of your personal vocabulary until you approve it.
Ben: Gosto disso. Caso contrário, uma IA entusiasta poderia encher o meu vocabulário com cinquenta expressões de uma única conversa.
Ben: I like that. Otherwise an enthusiastic AI could probably fill my vocabulary with fifty expressions from one conversation.
Clara: Precisamente.
Clara: Precisely.
O tutor pode ajudar-te a reparar em algo que vale a pena aprender, mas a decisão continua a ser tua.
The tutor can help you notice something worth learning, but you're still making the decision.
Depois de aprovares a adição, essa expressão passa a fazer parte do teu vocabulário pessoal. Podes geri-la em O Meu Conhecimento e usá-la noutras áreas da Vocafy que trabalham com o vocabulário guardado.
Once you approve it, that expression becomes part of your personal vocabulary. You can manage it in My Knowledge and use it in other parts of Vocafy that work with your saved vocabulary.
Ben: Portanto, há realmente dois sentidos nesta ligação.
Ben: So there are really two directions here.
Algo que já estou a aprender pode entrar na conversa, e algo útil que surge na conversa pode entrar no meu vocabulário.
Something I'm already learning can enter the conversation, and something useful from the conversation can enter my vocabulary.
Clara: É uma excelente forma de pensar nisso.
Clara: That's a very good way to think about it.
E é isso que torna esta ligação mais interessante do que simplesmente colocar um chatbot ao lado de um sistema de cartões de memorização.
And that's what makes the connection more interesting than simply putting a chatbot next to a flashcard system.
A conversa e o vocabulário não têm de permanecer completamente separados.
The conversation and the vocabulary don't have to remain completely separate.
Ben: Há pouco, disseste que também posso escolher a forma como o tutor se comporta.
Ben: Earlier you mentioned that I can choose how the tutor behaves too.
Clara: Sim, porque nem todas as pessoas procuram o mesmo tipo de professor.
Clara: Yes, because not everyone wants the same kind of teacher.
Há quem queira que todos os erros sejam corrigidos de imediato. Outras pessoas consideram isso cansativo e preferem acabar o que têm a dizer antes de receber comentários.
Some learners want every mistake corrected immediately. Others find that exhausting and would rather finish what they're saying before getting feedback.
Há quem queira respostas curtas. Outras pessoas preferem explicações detalhadas.
Some want short responses. Others want detailed explanations.
Há quem queira um parceiro de conversa descontraído. Outras pessoas preferem algo mais próximo de um professor tradicional.
Some want a relaxed conversational partner. Others prefer something closer to a traditional teacher.
Ben: E a Vocafy permite alterar isso?
Ben: And Vocafy lets you change that?
Clara: Sim. Podes ajustar aspetos como o grau de formalidade, o nível de detalhe das respostas, a forma como as correções funcionam, o nível de incentivo do tutor e a quantidade de humor que usa.
Clara: Yes. You can adjust things such as formality, how detailed the responses should be, how correction works, how encouraging the tutor should be and how much humour it uses.
Também podes dar ao tutor um enfoque maior em áreas específicas da aprendizagem de línguas.
You can also give the tutor a stronger focus on particular areas of language learning.
E podes decidir até que ponto uma língua que já conheces deve ser usada nas explicações.
And you can decide how much of a language you already know should be used for explanations.
Ben: Portanto, se ainda estiver no início, posso querer as explicações mais difíceis na minha própria língua.
Ben: So as a beginner I might want difficult explanations in my own language.
Clara: Exatamente.
Clara: Exactly.
Mais tarde, talvez prefiras manter quase tudo na língua que estás a aprender.
Later, you might prefer to keep almost everything in the language you're learning.
E, se não quiseres configurar tudo, podes começar com um tutor predefinido que já segue um determinado estilo de ensino.
And if you don't want to configure all of that yourself, you can start with a ready-made tutor that already has a particular teaching style.
Ben: Quero voltar às correções por um momento.
Ben: I want to go back to corrections for a moment.
Um problema que tenho nas conversas noutra língua é que, se recebo uma correção depois de cada frase, deixo de falar com naturalidade.
One problem I have with language conversations is that if I'm corrected after every sentence, I stop talking naturally.
Clara: E é precisamente por isso que o estilo de correção é importante.
Clara: And that's precisely why correction style matters.
Não existe uma definição adequada para todas as pessoas ou para todas as sessões.
There isn't one setting that is right for everybody or for every session.
Se estiveres a praticar gramática de forma intensiva, talvez queiras receber correções frequentes.
If you're doing focused grammar practice, frequent correction might be exactly what you want.
Se o objetivo for manter a conversa, demasiadas interrupções podem impedir-te de o alcançar.
If you're practising keeping a conversation going, too many interruptions might defeat the purpose.
A pergunta útil é: o que estás a tentar praticar nesse momento?
The useful question is what you're trying to practise at that moment.
Ben: Isso é bastante diferente da ideia de que existe uma personalidade perfeita para um professor de IA.
Ben: That's quite different from the idea of one perfect AI teacher personality.
Clara: Sim. Uma boa interação de aprendizagem depende, em parte, da tarefa e, em parte, de quem aprende.
Clara: Yes. A good learning interaction depends partly on the task and partly on the learner.
Por vezes, queres um professor.
Sometimes you want a teacher.
Por vezes, queres um parceiro de conversa.
Sometimes you want a conversation partner.
Por vezes, queres alguém que te desafie com vocabulário.
Sometimes you want somebody to challenge you with vocabulary.
E, por vezes, queres ensaiar uma situação específica antes de ela acontecer na vida real.
And sometimes you want to rehearse a specific situation before it happens in real life.
Ben: E quanto às próprias conversas? Desaparecem quando termino?
Ben: What about the conversations themselves? Do they disappear when I finish?
Clara: Não. Podes retomar conversas anteriores e continuar a praticar mais tarde.
Clara: No. You can return to earlier conversations and continue practising later.
Também podes pesquisá-las e organizá-las, marcar como favoritas as que forem úteis e arquivar as que já não quiseres ver na lista principal.
You can also search and organise them, mark useful conversations as favourites and archive ones you no longer want in your main list.
Ben: Parece simples, mas consigo imaginar a utilidade de ter uma conversa para preparar uma entrevista e outra para praticar uma viagem.
Ben: That seems simple, but I can imagine it being useful if I had one conversation preparing for an interview and another practising a trip.
Clara: Exatamente.
Clara: Exactly.
Uma conversa útil não tem de se tornar descartável só porque a sessão terminou.
A useful conversation doesn't have to become disposable just because the session ended.
Ben: Deixa-me confirmar se compreendi a ideia geral.
Ben: Let me see if I've understood the bigger picture.
Posso começar com uma conversa livre, uma aula mais orientada, prática de vocabulário ou uma simulação.
I can start with a free conversation, a more guided lesson, vocabulary practice or a roleplay.
O tutor pode trabalhar com parte do vocabulário que já estou a aprender.
The tutor can work with some vocabulary I'm already learning.
Uma revisão de vocabulário pendente pode aparecer dentro da conversa e ficar registada como uma revisão real.
A due vocabulary review can appear inside the conversation and count as a real review.
E, se surgir uma expressão nova e útil, posso optar por adicioná-la ao meu vocabulário.
And if a useful new expression comes up, I can choose to add it to my vocabulary.
Clara: É isso.
Clara: That's it.
E repara no que não estamos a dizer.
And notice what we're not saying.
A IA não tem de conceber em segredo todo o teu plano de aprendizagem nem decidir tudo o que deves aprender a seguir.
The AI doesn't need to secretly design your entire learning plan or decide everything you should learn next.
A parte útil é muito mais concreta.
The useful part is much more concrete.
Pode ligar a conversa a partes do processo de aprendizagem que, de outra forma, ficariam separadas.
It can connect conversation with parts of the learning process that would otherwise sit in separate places.
Ben: O que se enquadra em algo de que já falámos neste podcast.
Ben: Which fits something we've talked about before on this podcast.
Aprender uma palavra não se resume a vê-la vezes suficientes. No fim, queres compreendê-la quando aparece e conseguir usá-la quando precisas.
Learning a word isn't just seeing it enough times. Eventually you want to understand it when it appears and be able to use it when you need it.
Clara: Exatamente.
Clara: Exactly.
A prática de evocação pode ajudar a aprender vocabulário, mas uma língua não é apenas um teste de memória. Também precisas de oportunidades para usar o que sabes com um objetivo.
Retrieval practice can help vocabulary learning, but language isn't only a memory test. You also need opportunities to use what you know for a purpose.
A conversa oferece-te uma dessas oportunidades.
Conversation gives you one of those opportunities.
Ben: Então, o que sugeres a quem abre o tutor pela primeira vez?
Ben: So if somebody opens the tutor for the first time, what would you suggest?
Clara: Começa com um objetivo concreto.
Clara: Start with a real purpose.
Não escrevas apenas "Ensina-me espanhol".
Don't just type "teach me Spanish."
Escolhe algo sobre o qual queiras realmente falar ou uma situação que possas de facto encontrar.
Choose something you actually want to talk about or a situation you might genuinely encounter.
Se já tens vocabulário que estás a aprender, experimenta uma sessão de vocabulário e cria oportunidades para usares essas expressões, em vez de apenas as reconheceres.
If you have vocabulary you're already learning, try a vocabulary session and give yourself opportunities to use those expressions rather than only recognise them.
E, quando da conversa surgir uma expressão que queiras realmente recordar, guarda-a.
And when the conversation produces a phrase that you genuinely want to remember, save it.
Ben: Mais alguma coisa?
Ben: Anything else?
Clara: Presta atenção às correções, em vez de as tratares como interrupções.
Clara: Pay attention to corrections instead of treating them as interruptions.
Se o tutor te mostrar uma forma melhor de exprimir algo, tenta usar tu essa forma mais tarde na conversa.
If the tutor shows you a better way to express something, try using that form yourself later in the conversation.
O objetivo não é ter uma conversa sem falhas.
The goal isn't to have a flawless chat.
Muitas vezes, é nos erros que encontras a prática mais útil.
The mistakes are often where the useful practice is.
Ben: Isso parece muito menos falar com um professor de IA que sabe tudo e muito mais usar a conversa como outro ambiente de aprendizagem.
Ben: That sounds much less like talking to an all-knowing AI teacher and much more like using conversation as another learning environment.
Clara: Exatamente.
Clara: Exactly.
A IA pode tornar a conversa muito mais acessível.
AI can make conversation much easier to access.
Mas o mais interessante na Vocafy é o que acontece quando essa conversa não fica isolada.
But the interesting part in Vocafy is what happens when that conversation is not isolated.
As palavras que estás a aprender podem entrar no chat. Podes fazer ali revisões reais. E as expressões úteis da conversa podem passar para o teu vocabulário.
Words you're learning can come into the chat. Real review can happen there. Useful language from the conversation can go back into your vocabulary.
A conversa torna-se mais um espaço onde a tua aprendizagem pode continuar.
The conversation becomes another place where your learning can continue.
Ben: E talvez seja essa a verdadeira diferença.
Ben: And maybe that's the real difference.
O chat não é o destino. Faz parte do sistema.
The chat isn't the destination. It's part of the system.
Clara: É uma boa forma de o dizer.
Clara: That's a good way to put it.
Ben: Clara, agradeço a explicação.
Ben: Clara, thanks for walking us through it.
Clara: Foi um prazer.
Clara: My pleasure.
Ben: E a quem nos ouve, fica uma experiência simples: escolhe uma situação que queiras realmente saber enfrentar na língua que estás a aprender, inicia uma simulação e vê quanto do que estás a aprender consegues realmente usar.
Ben: And to everyone listening, try one simple experiment. Pick a situation you actually want to handle in your new language, start a roleplay, and see how much of what you're learning you can actually use.
Clara: E, se encontrares uma expressão que valha a pena guardar, já sabes o que fazer.
Clara: And if you discover one expression worth keeping, you know what to do.
