Case endings carry core roles and many preposition meanings.

На изучаемом языке
В английском почти нет падежных окончаний у существительных; роль слова обычно показывают порядок слов и предлоги. Заметно меняются в основном местоимения и притяжательные формы.

he/him = ограниченное изменение формы по роли: he — форма подлежащего, him — форма дополнения после saw.
