Your turn

Las tres oraciones copian el español. ¿Qué cambiarías?

Ana came with his husband. / The car of my brother is red. / I washed the hands.

La idea central

Todas las formas en una tabla

SujetoObjetoDelante del sustantivoSoloReflexivo
Imemyminemyself

hehimhishishimself
sheherherhersherself
ititits—itself
weusouroursourselves

She called me.
Me llamó.
I sent him the file.
Le mandé el archivo.
Can you help us?

with me
conmigo
for him
para él
between you and me
entre tú y yo

«Su» en inglés: his, her, its, their, your

I washed my hands.
Me lavé las manos.
He broke his arm.
Se rompió el brazo.
My head hurts.
Me duele la cabeza.
Take off your shoes, please.
Quítate los zapatos, por favor.

Posesivos solos: mine, yours...

This is my phone.
Este es mi celular.
This phone is mine.
Este celular es mío.
Is this bag yours?
¿Esta bolsa es tuya?
Our office is smaller than theirs.
A friend of mine works there.
Un amigo mío trabaja ahí.
In my opinion, it's too expensive.
En mi opinión, es demasiado caro.

Its e it's

Its es posesivo: The company changed its policy. It's es una contracción, de it is o de it has: It's cold. (It is cold.) y It's been a long day. (It has been a long day.).

my brother's car
el carro de mi hermano
Ana's laptop
la laptop de Ana
the company's website
la página web de la empresa
today's meeting

the students' books
los libros de los estudiantes
the children's room

the end of the movie
el final de la película

Reflexivos

I cut myself.
Me corté.
She introduced herself.
Se presentó.
They blamed themselves.
Se echaron la culpa.
I did it myself.
Lo hice yo mismo.
I did it by myself.
Lo hice solo, sin ayuda.
I feel myself tired. Incorrect
I feel tired.
Me siento cansado.

They looked at themselves in the mirror.
They looked at each other.
Se miraron el uno al otro.
They help each other.
Se ayudan.
We've known each other for years.
Nos conocemos desde hace años.

This, that, these, those

this book
este libro
that building
ese edificio
these examples
estos ejemplos
those people
esa gente

También para referirte a una idea:

This is what I mean.
A esto me refiero.
That's a good point.
Buen punto.
That makes sense.
Tiene sentido.
I didn't expect that.
No me lo esperaba.

One y ones

Which phone do you want? The cheaper one.
¿Qué celular quieres? El más barato.
I like the red shoes, not the black ones.
Me gustan los zapatos rojos, no los negros.
Which one do you mean?
¿Cuál dices?
I prefer the black. Incorrect
I prefer the black ones.
Prefiero los negros.

«Otro»: another, other, the other, others

Can I have another coffee?
¿Me trae otro café?
other people
otras personas
the other option
la otra opción
Some people agreed; others didn't.
Algunos estuvieron de acuerdo; otros no.

They para una persona

Cuando no sabes o no importa si es hombre o mujer, el inglés usa they, them y their, también para una sola persona.

Someone left their phone here.
Alguien dejó su celular aquí.
If a customer calls, tell them I'll call back.
Every student should bring their laptop.
Cada estudiante debe traer su laptop.

Ana and I o me and Ana

Me and Ana went to the concert. Informal
Ana and I went to the concert.
Ana y yo fuimos al concierto.
They invited Ana and me.

Ana came with his husband. Incorrect
